Double Tenth Day

Double Tenth Day is on October 10th, and it is the birthday of the Republic of China.
👉 A long time ago, our country was founded on this day, so people celebrate with flag-raising, singing the national anthem, fireworks, and parades.
👉 Just like we celebrate our own birthday, Double Tenth Day is the country’s birthday, so it is called the National Day.

The Earth Book

📖 Today, I read and guided the students through an English picture book The Earth Book.
I hope the children can get used to reading in Chinese and gradually develop a liking for reading in English as well.
I also found a link with native English pronunciation, so the kids can listen more in their free time!

9月的分享與溝通 our sharing and communication for September

Dear Parents,

Hello! Every child has a unique temperament and learning style. Some are lively and energetic, while others are quiet and focused; some enjoy hands-on activities, while others excel at observing and thinking. Regardless of a child’s learning style, reading can serve as the foundation for their learning.

Books are not just stories—they are keys that open the doors to knowledge. Each book can lead children to explore new worlds, encounter different ideas, and help them develop the ability to find solutions when facing challenges in the future.

Reading is a habit that requires patience to cultivate. Spending a short time reading with your child each day plants the seeds of learning in everyday life, gradually growing into a lasting skill and genuine interest. Especially for parents at Tong’an Elementary School, the Taoyuan Main Library is an excellent nearby resource—not only does it have a rich collection and comfortable spaces, but it also frequently holds parent-child reading and storytelling activities. It is the perfect starting point for guiding children into the world of books.

We can treat the library as an extension of home. By setting aside a fixed weekly “reading time” with your child—choosing books together, listening together, and discussing them—we can make reading a natural part of daily life. When reading becomes a habit, children gain the key to opening various doors of learning and develop more courage and strength to face the future.

To cultivate children’s character recognition and vocabulary skills, in each lesson we ask students to select ten new characters and, at home, use a dictionary to look up related words and practice writing them.

In the following day’s class, children bring the words they found to discuss and share with the class. During sharing, the teacher also provides explanations of meanings, usage, and examples, so that children not only learn to write the characters but also understand and actively use the words. For example, today we discussed characters such as “扮 (pretend/dress up), 美 (beautiful), 娶 (marry), 忙 (busy)”, exploring their various uses. This approach encourages children to take initiative in learning Chinese characters and deepens their understanding of vocabulary.

This concludes our sharing and communication for September.

Sincerely,

Teacher Cho

Notice on Children’s Dictionary Practice

Dear Parents,

Over the past few days, we have been teaching the children how to use a dictionary in class. We have noticed that some children grasp the techniques quickly, while others still need more practice.

To help children develop good dictionary habits, we plan to ask them to look up 5 new words per lesson, starting from Lesson 3.

Therefore, next week, children will bring their dictionaries home to practice using them.

Suggested Methods for Looking Up Words

Zhuyin (Bopomofo) Lookup: Find the word’s Zhuyin first, then look it up in order.

Radical Lookup: Identify the main radical of the word, then check the number of strokes under that radical.

How Parents Can Help

Encourage your child to try multiple times and not to be discouraged if they cannot find a word.

After finding a word, have your child read the pronunciation out loud and explain its meaning to reinforce memory.

We hope parents can help children practice using the dictionary at home, so they gradually become proficient.

Thank you for your cooperation and support!

有人在暑假裡認真閱讀,展現了學習的用心;
有人透過旅遊增加了見聞,讓生活更豐富;

Class, I’m really happy to see the effort you put into your summer work.
Some of you spent the summer reading with great dedication.
Some of you gained new experiences through your travels.
And some of you worked hard to catch up on your studies.

In short, each of you had a rich and meaningful summer.
I’ve prepared a small gift for you. The gift may not be exactly what you were hoping for, but it represents my recognition of your effort.
What truly matters is not the gift itself, but the fact that your effort is seen and appreciated.

Q&A Teacher-Parent Interaction Q&A

Learning

Set a fixed study time, e.g., 7:00–7:40 PM homework, 7:40–7:50 PM break.

Create a quiet environment: turn off TV, keep phones away, minimize distractions.

Practice "short focus → break → focus again" cycle, e.g., 10 minutes math, 2 min break, repeat.

Use small tools to track progress, like a timer or stickers.

First analyze the reason: lack of understanding, weak fundamentals, or study habits.

For minor gaps, review mistakes and discuss them at home.

If gaps persist, consider tutoring; targeted guidance is more effective than general supervision.

Break homework into segments, e.g., 4 math problems: do 2, 5-min break, then the rest.

Set small rewards: stickers or stars for completing segments, accumulate for a prize or activity.

Avoid constant nagging to reduce resistance.

    Acknowledge effort, not just grades.

Review mistakes together: "Where did I go wrong? How to improve next time?"

Develop a "learning from mistakes" mindset, e.g., keep a mistake notebook.

Start with books matching child's interests, e.g., dinosaurs, comics.

Read together or set 10 min daily parent-child reading, discuss content.

Gradually introduce informational or story books, ensuring achievement and enjoyment.

Parenting

Listen to the child first to understand feelings.

Teach empathy: "How would you feel if you were them?"

Practice saying "I feel..." instead of blaming.

    Role-play conflicts to practice responses.

Practice simple oral expression at home, e.g., share today's favorite moment.

Share in small groups: family gatherings or siblings.

Do not force; give encouragement: "You spoke clearly today, I'm proud."

Understand it as expressing emotion or needs.

    Stay calm, avoid yelling.

Guide proper phrasing afterward: "I wish..." instead of "You always..."

Provide choices: "Do homework first or take a break?"

Set clear rules: homework/chores first, max 30 min gaming.

    Parents lead by example.

Use timers or apps to track time.

Focus on effort, not outcome; praise completion even if imperfect.

Encourage self-evaluation: "I improved compared to yesterday!"

Peer Interaction

Encourage participation in group activities or class projects, focusing on "completing tasks together" to reduce pressure.

Parents can role-play conversation: "You can say to a classmate, 'Let's do this together'."

Acknowledge small progress, e.g., praise the child for speaking one sentence to a classmate, building confidence.

Listen to the child's version first, without immediately judging right or wrong.

Teach expressing feelings: "I feel… because…", avoiding attacking others.

Guide the child to propose solutions: "Let's take turns with the toy" or "Let's play this game tomorrow."

Encourage apologies and forgiveness to foster positive interactions.

Encourage the child to develop at least 1–2 close friends to reduce feelings of isolation.

Practice basic social skills: greeting, complimenting, sharing small items.

Build self-affirmation: "Even if someone ignores me, I still have friends to play with."

Practice simple verbal expressions at home, starting with "I like this idea."

Assign small roles like drawing or note-taking to give a sense of contribution before speaking.

Parents should affirm afterward: "You shared your opinion today; I'm glad to see your participation."

Teach the difference between "collaboration" and "domination": "Let's decide together" vs. "I decide."

Practice taking turns and listening to others' ideas.

Parents can role-play, e.g., taking turns proposing ideas when playing with blocks.

Amazon Rainforest Adventure

Amazon Rainforest Adventure

Jack and Annie climbed into the magical tree house once more, and the books glowed with a bright green light, the air filled with the damp scent of the forest. This time, their mission was to travel to the Amazon rainforest in South America, collect plant specimens, and help the locals understand and protect biodiversity.

The tree house landed in a dense rainforest, filled with constant bird songs, and towering trees reaching into the clouds. Annie exclaimed, “These trees are taller than our school playground!” Jack noticed the slippery mud and tangled roots on the ground, reminding Annie to watch her step.

They met a local boy named Miguel, who knew every trail of the rainforest. Miguel said, “Some plants have been sick lately. We need to find out why.” Jack asked, “Can we help?” Miguel nodded, “Of course, you can help collect plant specimens.”

Along the way, they saw all kinds of fascinating plants and animals: huge ferns, colorful orchids, glowing insects, and monkeys jumping through the trees. Annie couldn’t help taking photos, while Jack carefully recorded the characteristics of each plant in his notebook.

One day, they discovered an area affected by flooding. Many plants had been washed away, and the animals were panicking. Jack said, “We need to help restore this ecosystem and protect these plants and animals.” Annie added, “We also need to help the villagers understand the importance of environmental protection.”

They went with Miguel to meet the villagers, explaining how to replant damaged plants, protect water sources, and which animals are vital to the rainforest. The villagers were grateful and started replanting trees and plants alongside Jack and Annie.

During an exploration, they found an injured sloth unable to climb down a tree. Jack and Annie carefully moved the sloth to a safe place, using leaves and vines to make a simple support. Annie whispered, “We must not harm any living creature; every being is important.”

After a few days, the rainforest began to recover, plants regrew, and animals returned to their habitats. Jack and Annie sat by the tree house, watching the villagers work. Annie said, “Today we learned that environmental protection is not just science, but a responsibility.” Jack smiled, “And observation, patience, and cooperation are equally important.”

As the tree house glowed again, they returned to the present with full adventure stories. Jack reflected, “Every historical and natural adventure teaches us to respect life and the environment.” Annie added, “Courage, wisdom, and cooperation can help us accomplish any mission.”

Back home, they sat by the tree house, recalling the wonders of the Amazon rainforest: colorful plants, the life of animals, and the knowledge they had learned about protection. They realized that every adventure brings growth in knowledge, courage, and responsibility.

Dinosaur Egg Chase

Jack and Annie stepped into the magical tree house, the books glowing brightly, surrounded by the scent of ancient plants. This time, they were traveling to the Cretaceous period to protect a precious dinosaur egg and learn about dinosaur life and ecology.

The tree house landed in a dense jungle, with distant roars and thundering sounds of dinosaurs. Annie exclaimed, “Wow, it really feels like a dinosaur world!” Jack carefully observed the surroundings, noticing tall ferns, massive trees, and dinosaur footprints in the mud.

They encountered a small velociraptor, which quickly ran to the tree house, eyeing them warily. Annie whispered, “Don’t be afraid. It’s probably just curious.” Jack slowly extended his hand with some fruit. The velociraptor cautiously took it, then bounced off into the jungle.

They found a lone dinosaur egg lying on a rock, with no sign of the mother nearby. Jack said, “We must protect it until we find a safe place.” Annie nodded, “Quick, follow me! I found a hidden cave.”

While carrying the egg, they encountered a massive brachiosaurus, its enormous shadow looming over them. Jack said cautiously, “Move slowly, keep your distance, and don’t startle it.” Annie held the egg tightly, hiding behind a rock. The brachiosaurus sniffed the air, then slowly wandered away.

Along the way, they also encountered a predatory Tyrannosaurus rex, whose chasing footsteps made their hearts race. Jack pointed to a small stream. “Jump into the water. It probably won’t follow.” Annie followed, jumping into the stream, and the T. rex roared a few times before turning away.

Finally, they placed the dinosaur egg in a safe cave, surrounded by trees and natural barriers. Annie whispered, “It’s safe now. We did it!” Jack felt a sense of accomplishment. “This adventure taught me that courage, intelligence, and patience are all equally important.”

Back in the tree house, Jack and Annie sat down, reflecting on the adventure: the dinosaurs’ way of life, the wisdom of predator and protection, and the calm and cooperation they learned when facing danger. They realized that every adventure brings knowledge and growth in courage.

By evening, they returned to the present with their dinosaur stories. Jack said, “Every journey isn’t just fun, but a lesson in respecting nature and life.” Annie added, “And learning to observe, think, and protect the weak.”

Jack and Annie stepped into the magical tree house, and the books glowed with a deep blue light, the ocean breeze brushing their faces. This time, their mission was to travel to the Atlantic Ocean to uncover the mystery of a sea monster and learn about marine life and conservation.

The tree house landed near a deserted island, waves crashing against the rocks, seabirds circling overhead. Annie exclaimed, “This is amazing! I’ve never seen such a vast ocean!” Jack carefully observed the sea, noticing unusual ripples and currents.

They met a boy named Seabreeze, the child of local fishermen. Seabreeze said, “Lately, people say there’s a monster in the sea at night. Fishermen are too scared to sail.” Jack asked curiously, “Have you seen the sea monster?” Seabreeze shook his head, “No, only heard stories from elders.”

Jack and Annie decided to investigate. They boarded a small boat and explored the waves. Jack used a telescope to carefully observe the sea, while Annie recorded the activities of seabirds and fish. As night fell, giant waves suddenly rose, and a massive shadow appeared in the water.

Seabreeze exclaimed, “A sea monster! It really exists!” Jack calmly said, “Don’t be afraid. Let’s observe first and not disturb it.” Annie gently shone a flashlight on the water and discovered that it was actually a group of giant octopuses hunting, not the legendary monster.

The three carefully observed the octopuses’ behavior, noticing how they used their tentacles to catch fish and avoid larger predators. Jack said, “These octopuses are clever and important; they are part of the marine ecosystem.” Annie added, “We should protect them, not fear or harm them.”

Back on the island, they told the fishermen that the sea monster was actually octopuses. The villagers finally realized the truth. Seabreeze’s father said, “So it was our own fear imagining a monster. Thank you for helping us understand the truth.” Jack nodded, “Understanding nature allows us to live in harmony.”

By evening, Jack, Annie, and Seabreeze walked along the beach, watching the sunset reflect on the water. Annie said, “Today we learned not to be frightened by rumors and to use observation and knowledge to solve problems.” Jack added with a smile, “And the ocean and its creatures need our respect and protection.”

As the tree house glowed again, they returned to the present with full adventure stories. Jack reflected, “Every ocean adventure is not just exploration, but also learning about and respecting nature.” Annie nodded, “Courage and wisdom are equally important, along with the responsibility to protect the environment.”

Back home, Jack and Annie sat by the tree house, reflecting on the adventure: the octopuses’ intelligence, the villagers’ fears, the patterns of nature, and the knowledge they gained through observation, analysis, and protection. They realized that every historical and natural adventure brings valuable insights and growth.

Viking Adventure

Jack and Annie climbed into the magical tree house once more, and the books glowed with the cold light of the sea breeze. This time, their mission was to travel to Viking-era Scandinavia, help a young Viking find lost treasure, and learn about Viking life and culture.

The tree house landed in a snow-covered village, with fjords glistening in the distance and Viking longships moored by the shore. Annie exclaimed, “It’s like stepping into an adventure story!” Jack carefully observed the villagers, dressed in fur clothing, holding axes and shields, yet their eyes reflected wisdom and courage.

They met a boy named Ragg, whose father was the village captain. Recently, the family’s treasure had gone missing. Ragg nervously said, “If we can’t find it, my father will be very disappointed!” Jack reassured him, “Don’t worry, we’ll look together. We can find it.”

Jack and Annie followed Ragg to the forests and fjords outside the village, noticing how the Vikings used natural resources to build boats and homes. Annie was amazed, “Their lives are tough, but everyone knows how to cooperate and plan.”

During their search, they faced fierce winds and snowstorms. Ragg was almost crushed by a falling snowblock. Jack and Annie immediately helped, using their bodies to shield Ragg and guide him safely back to the snow. Annie said, “In adventures, courage and helping each other are just as important.”

They finally found the treasure in a hidden cave by the fjord—a chest full of gold coins, jewels, and family emblems. Ragg exclaimed, “Hooray! Thank you so much!” Jack reminded him, “Treasure is valuable, but what’s more important is that you’ve learned observation, analysis, and courage.”

Back at the village, the Vikings held a small celebration for Jack and Annie to thank them for their help. Jack noticed that although Viking culture is known for bravery and combat, they also value family, respect nature, and teamwork. Annie said, “Everyone has a role; each is essential. This is part of their wisdom in daily life.”

By evening, the tree house glowed again, and they returned to the present with the story of the treasure. Jack said, “Today’s adventure taught me that true courage is not just fighting but taking responsibility and helping others.” Annie added, “And also the importance of observing your surroundings and respecting others.”

Jack and Annie stepped into the magical tree house once more, and the books glowed with a soft light. This time, their mission was to travel to 16th-century England to help a theater troupe perform a Shakespeare play.

The tree house spun through the mist, passing green hills and winding rivers, finally landing in a small village on the outskirts of London. Annie pointed excitedly at a wooden stage in the distance. “Wow, we’re really going to be part of a performance!”

They met a group of busy actors preparing costumes and props for the evening performance. Jack checked the book and realized the troupe needed help moving scenery and organizing scripts. Annie said, “We can help! This way we’ll learn Shakespeare’s stories too!”

Jack and Annie got busy, moving heavy stage props, helping actors organize scripts, and even practicing some simple lines. Jack nervously said, “I don’t know if I can remember these old lines.” Annie encouraged him, “Take it slow. As long as we try our best, we’ll be helpful.”

By evening, the actors wore magnificent costumes, and colorful curtains adorned the stage. Jack and Annie stood aside, watching villagers gather, eagerly waiting for the performance. Jack thought, “These people are so enthusiastic. Their dedication to theater is more important than anything.”

The performance began, and Shakespeare’s lines echoed through the air, telling a story of courage, love, and wisdom. Jack and Annie helped deliver props and observed the actors’ techniques. They learned that acting is not just about speaking lines but understanding characters and feeling emotions to move the audience.

During a break, the troupe director shared the background of Shakespeare’s works with Jack and Annie: people lived simply, the theater was an important place for communication and entertainment, and actors had to practice diligently to give a great performance. Jack was amazed, “I didn’t realize theater was so important in people’s lives!” Annie nodded, “And everyone has a role; each is essential.”

As night fell, the performance ended successfully, and the audience applauded enthusiastically. Jack and Annie felt an unprecedented sense of accomplishment. They realized they had not only helped the troupe but also learned the importance of history, literature, and culture.

When the tree house glowed again, they returned to the present, carrying full stories with them. Jack reflected, “Every time we travel, it’s not just an adventure, but a chance to understand the world and history.” Annie smiled, “And to learn to respect other people’s culture and hard work.”

Jack and Annie stepped into the magical tree house, and the books glowed once more. This time, their mission was to travel to the North American plains to help a Native American child complete an important task and learn about the local culture and way of life.

The tree house landed on the vast plains, where the wind gently rustled the golden grass. In the distance, a few Native American tents stood by the river, smoke curling from the chimneys. Annie exclaimed, “It’s so beautiful here, like stepping into another world!”

Jack and Annie walked toward the tents and met a boy named Little Wind. His tribe was preparing for a ceremony but faced a problem: the sacred feathers were missing. Little Wind anxiously said, “Without the feathers, the ceremony cannot begin!”

Jack had an idea. “We can help find the feathers!” So the three of them searched along the river, across the plains, and through small forests. They carefully observed footprints and bird trails, learning how to gather clues from nature.

Along the way, they encountered a herd of wild horses. Little Wind excitedly said, “Look, these are animals our tribe respects!” Annie whispered, “We must be careful not to scare them.” Jack used hand signals to guide the horses away from their path, protecting themselves and the feathers from being trampled.

Finally, they found the fallen sacred feathers in a small grove. Annie carefully picked them up, and Jack reminded Little Wind, “Carry them gently back; don’t mess them up.” Little Wind nodded gratefully. “Thank you! Without you, we would have been in trouble!”

Back at the village, the tribe cheered, and the ceremony went smoothly. Jack and Annie observed that the villagers helped one another, respected elders and nature, and that everyone had roles and responsibilities. Annie said, “Their way of life is very different from ours, but it’s full of wisdom.”

During the ceremony, Little Wind led Jack and Annie in traditional dances and songs. They felt the joy and unity in the tribe’s life. Jack noticed that although their living conditions were simple, the villagers’ hearts were full of respect, kindness, and courage.

As the sun set, Jack and Annie stood on the plains, looking back at the tents and river. Jack said, “Today we didn’t just help Little Wind; we learned to respect other cultures.” Annie added, “And the importance of teamwork, as well as the responsibility to protect nature and animals.”
