One day, Gulliver set sail, but a fierce storm overturned his ship! He swam for a long time and finally fell asleep on a small sandy beach. When he woke up, he was shocked—his whole body was tied with tiny ropes, and he was surrounded by “people smaller than fingers.”
These little people stood in neat rows like tiny soldiers, holding needle-like spears, shouting, “Giant! Watch out!”
Gulliver stayed calm and said softly, “Don’t be afraid. I won’t hurt you.”
The king of Lilliput heard that a giant had arrived and came to see him. At first, he was nervous, but after realizing Gulliver was gentle, he ordered him to be untied and invited him to eat “tiny cakes” and “tiny roast meat.” Although Gulliver could eat ten plates in one bite each, he still smiled and said, “Delicious!”
Gradually, the little people grew fond of their giant friend, asking him to help carry large logs and block enemy ships. Gulliver grabbed a whole row of small boats and dragged them back to the harbor. Everyone exclaimed, “Amazing!”
However, Gulliver also noticed that the Lilliputians often quarreled over trivial matters. Some insisted shoes must have high heels to look noble; others argued low heels were better for walking. Some said eggs must be cracked from the “big end,” while others insisted on the “small end.” These small disputes even led to war!
Gulliver shook his head and thought, “These things are not important. Why fight over them?”
He reminded the Lilliputians, “Friends are more important than arguments. Cooperation is better than fighting.”
From then on, whenever the little people saw Gulliver, they remembered that some quarrels aren’t worth it.
